Head of Mordovia spoke at SPIEF about the development of pharmaceutical industry in the region

The head of Mordovia, Artem Zdunov, spoke about the development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry in the Republic of Mordovia at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the press service of the head of the region reports.


Participants of the session «Healthy Society: the course for innovation and support of the Russian manufacturers» discussed the opportunities and plans for the implementation of innovative projects in the domestic pharmaceutical industry in the current realities.

«The head of Mordovia, Artem Zdunov, spoke at the session as one of the main speakers. He noted that pharmaceuticals is among the priority areas in the Republic of Mordovia and contributes a lot in the investment portfolio of the region. He stressed that the Biokhimik plant of Promomed Group is not only a large enterprise of global level, but also one of the most important taxpayers in the region,» the report says.

Speaking about the interaction between the region and the Biokhimik plant, Zdunov stressed the importance of joint work on receiving marketing authorization for new medicines and protection of intellectual property. «In Mordovia, it is the Biokhimik of Promomed Group that is the main generator of intellectual activity products and then intellectual property assets. We are among the top innovative regions of the country, and pharmaceuticals play a significant role here,» the press service quotes Zdunov.

The head of the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent), Yuri Zubov, commented that the chain of interaction between science, business, the state and the law enforcement sphere is well established in Mordovia. «The sphere of intellectual property is now very relevant and in demand, so it is important to be involved. Saransk has become the capital of invention activities in Russia this year. Such a high title was won in a fair competition among many other regions,» stressed the head of Rospatent, whose words are quoted in the message.

The head of Mordovia, speaking at the session, noted the importance of interaction with science and education. The Biokhimik plant, together with the Ogarev Mordovia State University, is actively conducting research and development aimed at improving drug production technologies. Excellent results of this cooperation have been demonstrated in fighting to control the new coronavirus infection. It is the case of clinical trials of Areplivir, the drug developed by Biokhimik JSC. It is also worth mentioning that Promomed Group supported the opening of two modern laboratories at the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Ogarev Mordovia State University.

«Students start their work after university or a secondary vocational educational institution without any stress, because they are already familiar with production. We attract specialists from other regions as well. In addition, we have a number of joint infrastructure projects with Biokhimik, you will hear about them in the near future,» the head of Mordovia said.

Dmitry Zemskov, Executive Director of Biokhimik JSC, said that the team had to re-create the new production of antibiotics in Mordovia, revive the chemical synthesis and synthesis of substances, put new drugs into production.

«Original innovative drugs need patent protection at the state level. A pivotal event for patent legislation took place in Mordovia, the meeting of the Council on Intellectual Property Issues under the Chairman of the Federation Council. It allowed all participants in the process to reach mutual understanding in this area and gave impetus to the further development of this topic. As for support measures, our company is confident in using the opportunities provided by the Industry Development Fund of Mordovia,» the press service quotes the words of the chairman of the Board of Directors of Promomed Group, Petr Bely.
